My wife and I went to the local DIY shop and bought a bird table for the garden. It came in a large cardboard box which bore the legend ‘self assembly’. When I got it home I took it to the garage and laid out all the component parts on my bench. I was then called in for lunch. After lunch I went back to the garage where I caught sight of the box. A thought occurred to me and I went indoors to find wife and daughter. “That bird table will have to go back” I told them. “It doesn’t work!” They looked suitably non-plussed and enquired how a bird table could be said to “not work?”
I recounted how I had laid out the component parts of this ‘self assembly bird table’ before lunch and when I went back later the parts were still lying where I had left them and had made no attempt to assemble themselves into a bird table. Most disappointing!
