Wit

Back in the days when I worked for Surrey County Council I used to take my Mobile Library for service and repair to the Council’s engineering facility at Ewell. During my visits I used the gents toilet and although I had seen this example of working men’s wit several times before, it always made me smile.

Mounted on the wall was a row of urinals. Above these was a long, white painted board which bore, in large red lettering, the legend “PLEASE DO NOT PUT CIGARETTE ENDS IN THE URINALS”. Beneath this plea, some wag had written in black marker pen, “it makes them soggy and hard to light”.
