Passé postage

I recently received an envelope, from an unknown person, containing a leaflet. This was publicising a slide show in the village hall at Chelsfield, my birthplace. I went along as the subject matter was ancient pictures of Chelsfield and the surrounding area.

I was, however, unable to discover who had sent me the leaflet, which was unfortunate, as I wanted to ask about the postage stamps they had used. The second class postage rate is 21pence, but as may be seen on the accompanying photograph the stamps are 5p, 15p and strangely 1/2p. The half penny was discontinued in 1984 and obviously the stamp also. The stamps and the postmark can be clearly read in the photograph. I have no idea who sent this to me and the obvious candidates deny all knowledge. Strange!
